Across the US in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco four “Simply Perfect” Art Project studios occupy formerly vacant storefront windows that have been transformed into spaces of creativity and imagination for nearly 30 up-and-coming artists. Given approximately one week each, artists will create an original painting, sculpture or other work based on their personal interpretation of Patrón tequila’s “Simply Perfect” mantra.

In all pieces Brown Gold, Silver Gold, Fine Gold I used double layer of fabric which is sew together in the tub form . This scarf has painting all the way around ...Can be hang on the wall or be worn in different forms ( No problem to wash it in cold water )

I strive to create diverse art experience, in this piece all media intertwine to create asculptural body rap, painting, photography together mixed mediainstallation where one form inspires the other.This piece mounted on the wall can exist by itself,sculptural object, in harmony with peoples lives. Or can define them becoming cultural statement. Fabric gives endless possibility, the way we wear it in different cultures changes the meaning of the piece. It becomes apainting we decorate ourself, eloquent medium to create visual story.

This is my photography which I transferred into the fabrics using silk screen technique.

But they will not look like that without hand touch ...long hours touch...that was where all the fun begin.

I silk print images over each other to get the effect I was looking for ....and spent hours with a brush blending them together.

I did not realize how many people are interested in process of creating

Unzipped is an exhibition designed to examine the changes in artistic perception and the creative process caused by geographical displacement. It focuses on the works of fourteen inspired, young Polish born artists who upon moving to United States became extensively “open” or “perceptive” to the ideas of their new culture and its existing art trends. Consequently, the realistic and formal ways of representing the artists’ subject matter became more loose and conceptual.

This show includes playful installations and creative expressions in painting, sculpture, photography and fashion. Unzipped clearly extends beyond the label ”Made in Poland”, exemplifying the artists’ connection with the American trends and new ways of thinking. While escaping the formality and rigidity often associated with Polish artwork, the pieces on display still retain the emotion, mood and expression which are deeply rooted in the Polish culture. The show guarantees an exciting dialogue of color, texture and community by placing together in one room artists who work in various mediums and represent different styles and techniques. The goal of Unzipped is to raise awareness of the talent of Polish born artists, both within the Polish and the American communities; as well to develop the concept into an annual event which will grow in scope and attendance.

Participating artists include: Miroslaw Chudy, Dawid Czerniejewski, Malgorzata Czerniejewski, Magdalena Galecka, Renata Jaworska, Pawel Kupiec, Dariusz Labuzek, Andrzej Lawniczak, Magdalena Marczewska , Jolanta Izabela Pawlak, Agnieszka Podczaszy, AggaB Raya, Barbara Sawa, and Patrycja Wierzba, the curator of this exhibition.

I sculpted composer Fredrick Chopin using historic artistic and photographic images and a live model for bone structure to create his likeness. I transformed his wispy hair into a Divi Divi Tree to symbolize the link between Curacao and music that has so influenced the culture on this small Caribbean island. The clay sculpture was presented at the Bicentennial Chopin Concert held in the Fortchurch on Curacao featuring pianist Harold Martina. Now I am seeking a sponsor to cast this work of art in bronze so it will become a lasting tribute to the influence Chopin has had on her island home of Curacao. Born in Poland this is a very meaningful project for me.

For this project she had to work with pictures and memories of someone who passed away. “It is always easier to work with a live model. Working with just photo images of a person who is not physically there, can be a challenge. The Godett family was so great about sharing their memories of Papa Godett with me, which enabled me to approach the project from a more personal perspective. It is a way to honor their memory of him.”

Clay begins the transformation into the likeness of Papa Godett.
Details of his facial features come to life as the piece progresses.

I was inspired by historic photographic images and stories told to her by the Godett family.

The finished clay form is completed with the addition of the glasses and hat he was so well known for wearing.

Family members who commissioned the sculpture of Papa Godett gather to approve the clay before the casting process begins.

The clay form begins it's transformation to bronze when a plaster form is created, making a mold of the sculpture.

At the at the MCA Warehouse.

I came to this event early ...people were still gathering so I had a great opportunity to photograph the installations inspired by the Buckminister Fuller and Olafur Eliasson exhibitions at the MCA. This event was being held in the warehouse which is a pretty amazing place where the art collections of the MCA are stored. The warehouse design is just great ...in a long hallway on your way to the party through the glass separating me from the massive art collections I could see all the procedures used to properly store, catalog and even ship iconic artwork. This building is not only a warehouse for art it is a space often used for special events. The event I was attending was organized by i4design magazine and the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) hosted the evening of art installations and music for special guests of Art Chicago. It was a super event which brought together artists from around the world, gallery owners, collectors . Here are the first few minutes ....the first few shoots I took before the crowds arrived to enjoy the evening.

Carnival of life...taking over...this is what I love about Curacao

...one of those moments and people I will not forget .
In the morning when I was putting my new jewelery pieces in the gallery window ...I was arranging one of my favorite necklaces ...with a thought ....that this piece can be worn only by a woman who is not afraid to stand out ...

When I left my studio and returned to the gallery later in the day I met a lady who was trying the piece I displayed earlier. It was so perfect on her ...like I just created it especially for her.

But when she removed the necklace from her neck I realized she had survived cancer of the larnyx and had to speak to speak to me from a mechanical voice box in her neck. All I could say at this moment was...."I am sorry I did not see it "

She gave me this big hug with such a good energy. It was so emotional ...we all started crying. She had never been able to cover her wound and replacement voice been able to cover her wound and replacement voice box in a beautiful way and was so happy ! The next day she and her husband stopped by the gallery again....I wanted to hear her story .

Sometimes we accidentally stumble upon people, a thought or even an object that can help free us from bondage .

lives in Suriname ...she did not go out much were people could see her ...avoiding restaurants and even some family events because people were always staring and she had become self conscious.

Cancer and the results of surgery have stolen the life she once knew and replaced her days with a struggle to cope with so many new circumstances.
In the middle of her throat there is now a large hole covered with a plastic tube and round white disk. It is the only way she can breathe and speak.

She has loving husband who was with her during these not easy days ...years .

In the big city there are more people living with laryngectomy but Suriname it is something that many people don't understand and they are even afraid of .... looking at.

I ask her to tell her story and discuss things she is going through every day ...to inspire other people .
I felt like I had to do something ..with taking photos of her ...encouraging her to start writing ...she has a voice ...she told me a story how she wants to encourage the manufacturer of her replacement voice box to make a dark color to mach the skin color of a black person. Maybe my blog can help get this process started.

She inspired me too ...I want to make collection of jewelry called her name "Lelilia"....and design glamour pieces which will make the precious machine which is helping her breath and speak look not so visible.

Moments like that day..I feel like I live for ....to see somebody discover a piece of art that I create and have it become such a part of them ...their lives. It transforms my work into something more than I imagined ...it gives it a real purpose. And once again I know why it is called the creative spirit ....this is why I have such a passion for being an artist and being able to create my dreams and visions.

Soul Beach Festival Aruba 2008

Usually I prefer to tell the story of places and people I experience only with my photos, however, this time I need to use words to describe how powerful the voice of an artist can be. Last week I had the opportunity to travel to Curacao's sister island Aruba and attend the Soul Beach Festival, and I want to share some of that experience.

During the festival I attended the event press conference, which felt more like a family gathering rather than an official event. Sinbad, a well recognized actor and comedian from USA, who was also at the press conference, was more than happy to mingle with everybody taking pictures. He seemed completely at home, introducing his family as though he was at a barbeque in his backyard. The impression I got from him was that this man really feels at home in Aruba. He keeps going back there over and over.

Wyclef Jean also seemed to feel the same way, appearing at the press conference with his deep and meaningful message instead of an unnecessary entourage.

Born in Haiti, he spoke openly about his strength and sense of pride that is part of his heritage, using his voice and charisma to spread the message and shape a better future for his homeland. His Yele Foundation helps to make a difference in education, health and community development in Haiti through various projects, from donating computers for schools to donating five chickens that can provide food for a family in need.

According to Wyclef Jean, "Haitians are not for a gift or straight aid, but for a loan or an education or an opportunity". This is the message the Yele Foundation represents, and through their efforts they strive to provide their country with a good start. www.yele.org

Wyclef's Caribbean spirit embraced the audience during his performance on Saturday night.

He appeared on the stage wearing a carnival mask, and it didn't take long before the crowd was singing songs in his native language, filled with the spirit of the festival and spreading the Caribbean fever.

Before long Wyclef disappeared from the stage and sank into crowd.

He knew just who to invite on stage to join him, singer Ledisi. Her vocals exploded over the crowd like nothing you have ever heard before, from jazz divas like Anita Becker to Janice Joplin, Ledisi pushes her voice to the very last breath in her lungs.

Yes ....Erykah Badu....was a reason why I came to Aruba.
...HER VOICE ....ENERGY ...There is no words to describe it .

This woman is so unique with her voice and style ....

she is inspiration ...her music is such a part of my creative process..

during listening to her music ..I made one of my favorite pieces

..one of the rings ....I called her name and I knew one day I am going to give it to her

I am happy that we had a chance to meet ..she likes this pieces ..now is part of her life ...like her music is part of mine.

Bonaire

I recently spent a weekend on Curacao's sister island of Bonaire, where I went in search of new inspiration.

At the time I was trying to create a new advertisement for my gallery, and while I have taken endless photographs capturing the many different sides of Curacao, I found myself longing to discover a fresh perspective that I could embrace and add to my artwork.

Two days and over a thousand pictures later, I had found the new energy I was searching for. The richness and unique beauty of Bonaire's landscape brought back to me all the reasons why I love to travel to new places and go exploring--it reminded me why this is my one addiction, the one thing that makes me feel completely free.

Sometimes I wish that I could just take off and travel more often. Even though I am dedicated to my work here in Curacao, I have a constant longing to stimulate my brain with new images and ideas that I can channel into creative inspiration.

Salt Pans
One of the most unique and amazing sites I photographed on Bonaire were the salt pans--a vast plain of salt mountains that have accumulated from the sea on the south shore of the island. I was completely in awe of the crystal white mounds. I was able to photograph the mountains at different times throughout the day, capturing the various ways in which the light played with them and transformed their beauty.

Another hidden treasure I discovered during my trip were these shell mountains located on a little beach off the beaten path. Sometimes you have to get lost to truly find what you are looking for.

Caves

I also visited the caves of Bonaire and was inspired by the primitive paintings created so long ago by the Indian inhabitants of the island. This was really the kind of experience that is only made possible by having someone by your side who knows the secrets of such a place. Luckily for me, I had the help of a polish priest and friend who is living on the island. He was a great guide, prepared for anything, and completely ready and willing to go along with my adventures. He helped with everything from assisting with lighting for my pictures to providing a truck that allowed us to leave behind the normal path and go where no little car could ever go.

It is truly great to find friends who are not afraid to get dirty and who also have the patience to help me embrace my vision, even if it means holding a light at a certain angle while I take hundreds of pictures.

I can find inspiration anywhere ...and anytime .

How art and architecture are in harmony.
I am a sculptor with a dream. I have created a series of rings in bronze and silver. They range from bold rings for the hand to even larger bronze ones that are displayed on table top or pedestal. But my vision for these works is a much larger scale. I hope someday to create a public work that is big enough to walk through. I created few paintings of my rings which I want to cast in big scale . I like to take this canvases with me while I am traveling and unrolled it in different places to see how they interact with the space."

This is some photos from my last exhibition in The Fortchurch Museum in Curacao on March 19, 2008. My new collection of jewelery is named for Tania Kross, mezzo soprano opera singer. Tania Kross opened the event with an a capella performance, along with twelve models who were wearing the crosses I designed special for this event.
